Is your pet experiencing skin woes?
Social media and google have a good majority convinced their skin woes are related to diet. This notion has now spilled over to thinking that diet is affecting their animals skin too.
Recently, per social trend, pet owners are now relating their animals' skin affliction(s) to diet. I’m here to tell you, that is highly unlikely.
Similar to humans, your animal's skin tribulations are most likely related to environment, everyday, repetitive exposures and lack of proper hygiene.
Hard facts.
As most of you know, skin is our largest organ. Furthermore, we have direct access to that organ. Common sense should tell you that in most cases, that organ is affected by what it comes into direct contact with- more hard facts. Pet owners are modifying their pets diets to improve their skin health, yet continue to ignore and neglect what should be considered evident.
If/when your pet is experiencing a skin allergy, reaction or infection, I suggest considering the following:
Bathe your pet 1-2 times per week with a medicated or intentional plant based wash. In the past, we were taught to not wash our pets often because it could potentially strip them of their natural oils. However, washing your pet ‘periodically’ is an outdated noesis. One of the biggest impacts on skin health is the lack of proper hygiene.
Wash your pets' bedding once a week! Their hair, skin flakes, saliva and more reside in their sleep space.
Apply a (plant based) barrier support balm or oil multiple times per day, everyday to the affected areas. Example: https://naturaldogcompany.com/
Most animals roam in and out of the house with some level of frequency. Make an effort to observe what your pet is coming into contact with outside. Could their exposure to something be impacting their skin?
This process can be tedious. However, I imagine if our pets could speak for themselves they would beg you to follow through. Living with a chronic skin condition can cause pain and suffering for our pets.
